Introducing: Slack at Apple
Internal Promo – Apple
In the Fall of 2019, Apple was getting ready to roll out Slack to team members across the globe. The idea of having to learn the ins and outs of yet another productivity tool was met with some resistance during the initial beta testing period, so the Creative Services team was tasked with creating a video that would help Apple employees get excited about using Slack.
The main hesitation voiced by beta testers was "Why bother learning our way around a new chat app?" So with that in mind, we set out to prove that Slack was more than just a messaging tool – it was a way to keep teams and their projects connected, organized, and up-to-date, all while being fun to use.
As the sole team member based in Austin, I partnered with my colleagues in California and Arizona, who, to my surprise, had already shot a bunch of beautifully-composed footage. Using their material as inspiration, I crafted a story, helped produce an additional shoot, remotely coordinated the post-production process, and created all of the motion graphics in the final video.
The completed project was then featured on the Apple IS&T homepage for users to watch before downloading the app.

Production for Slack at Apple was the first time Santa Clara Valley, Mesa, and Austin team members met IRL. We had been corresponding via virtual calls and email for several months, but shooting at the Austin campus finally brought us all into the same time zone. Little did we know that our remote way of working was preparing us for a pandemic just six months later!

Shot between California and Texas, the AZ and CA teams traveled to the Austin campus, where we gathered a diverse group of Apple colleagues to feature in the overhead “hands typing” sequence.
